Aging Bulbs and LED Lamp Labels

You may be experiencing early signs of lamp failure. If your LED signs were installed in 2015 or earlier, planning for LED lamp replacements might be time. All LED lamps can last 5-10 years, depending on the climate, electrical circuit conditions, and daily use hours. If the sign is beyond the 4-year warranty period, we recommend replacing all lamps in the sign when one lamp fails. This will reset the powerful benefits of LED lamp life, eliminating unnecessary sign outages and maintenance time due to the individual LED lamps failing within the same sign.

Failure Mode for LED Lamps
An LED lamp will behave erratically before complete failure near the end of its useful life. It will trip the one-out-all-out feature, and the entire sign will go dark. A simple controller reset may temporarily re-illuminate all the lamps, but the problem will persist. If failing lamps are not changed, more frequent resets will be required.

As the electronics in your lamps begin to fail, it will trigger the sign to shut down as mandated by the FAA. With a simple controller reset, the lamps may illuminate, for now…Unfortunately, the symptoms will get worse as the lamps degrade. We recommend establishing a replacement plan, which includes our LED Lamp Replacement Labels to date when new lamps are installed.

Once your 10% LED lamp inventory is depleted, we recommend a larger planned replacement of all the lamps in all the signs from that installation date. This may be 8 or 10 years from the original installation. An installation reset with all new LED lamps will reset the powerful benefits of LED lamp life, eliminating the urgencies and inefficiencies associated with sign outages from individual LED lamps gradually failing. We recommend the purchase of 10% replacement lamps for your signs once the 4-year LED warranty has expired. Use these lamps in signs as they begin to fail.
